Earlier today, Bethesda revealed that the company will not send early review copy to publications as it has done so in the past. Many critics can be found via social media, frustrated that the company has decided to distribute review copy much differently than before, which now critics are to receive Bethesda review product one day before release.

VG Newswire has reached out to Bethesda regarding the backlash and was given the following response:

“This is the review policy that works best for us, and our games. We are confident that people will find that the quality of our games isn’t tied to when review copies arrive.

As we said, we understand that people may wish to read reviews before they make a purchase decision, and if that’s the case we encourage them to wait until their favorite reviewers share their thoughts on our games.”

It’s typical for critics to receive review copy one to two weeks prior to release, but perhaps this may change the way publications provide review coverage on select titles.
