Review: The Walking Dead: A New Frontier – From the Gallows

After greatly enjoying the first two episodes of A New Frontier, I was underwhelmed by the next pair. With the final episode, From the Gallows, in the books, I must, unfortunately report that this series never built upon the potential of its two-part premiere. At times this finale is satisfying, but it just feels off throughout. Choices matter? One complaint often lodged at the Telltale series is that your choices don’t affect the outcome in important ways. The story is the story and at best you’re making minor tweaks. Decisions made throughout A New Frontier can result in significantly...

PlayStation VR has surpassed 1 million units sold

Sony’s PlayStation VR has eclipsed the 1 million units sold milestone, updating sales numbers last pegged at 915,000 in February. Among VR headsets that don’t involve wearing your phone on your face, PSVR has sold the most by far. HTC Vive has cleared 400,000 and Oculus Rift is at nearly 250,000. The PS4 install base is around 60 million, meaning approximately 1.67% of owners have sprung for the console’s virtual reality add-on. Sony says PSVR owners have purchased over 5 million VR games and play them for an average of 25 minutes per...

PlayStation Plus and Games With Gold for June 2017

The month of June 2017 is perhaps the best collective lineup of “free” games available to subscribers of the respective platforms. Xbox Games With Gold includes Watch Dogs on Xbox One, along with Assassin’s Creed III and Dragon Age: Origins as backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles. New release Speedrunners which I reviewed on PC when it left Steam Early Access last April, will debut on Xbox One. Sony’s offerings are Killing Floor 2 and Life is Strange on PlayStation 4, Abyss Odyssey and WRC 5: World Rally Championship on PlayStation 3, and Neon Chrome and Spy Chameleon on PlayStation...

Editorial: Zero health updates included with launch of Rainbow Six’s Operation Health

When Ubisoft announced they were delaying scheduled updates to Rainbow Six Siege in order to fix problems that have been lingering since launch, I was simultaneously stunned and unsurprised. Siege has the makings of a great game but severely struggled from day one, even before its popularity boomed. The announcement did include some hope. In exchange for delaying new characters and completely scrapping a planned map, the developers would be hard at work to fix bugs and improve the general health of the game. In my opinion, most of this should have been handled before launch, and any other...

Tom Holland cast as Nathan Drake in upcoming Uncharted film

The long rumored Uncharted movie is starting to take form. Tom Holland, Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man Homecoming, has been cast as a young Nathan Drake. Deadline reports the Uncharted film was reconfigured to be a prequel to the games because Sony Pictures is so confident with Holland after seeing an early cut of Homecoming. The plot is said to take inspiration from the sequence in Uncharted 3 that shows Drake’s first encounter with Sully. A new writer will be hired to essentially start the scripting process over from the beginning in order to use Holland in the...
